Inaugural True Patriot Love Winnipeg Tribute Dinner Raises over $1 million

Supporters gathered in Winnipeg to honour and support Manitoba's Men and Women in Uniform

Winnipeg's business, political and community leaders came out on the evening of June 1st to support Canada's military families, raising more than $1 million for True Patriot Love Foundation. The funds raised from the inaugural True Patriot Love Winnipeg Tribute Dinner will support programs in Manitoba that address TPL's four main areas of focus: mental health and well-being, physical health and rehabilitation, family health and support, and research and innovation.

The True Patriot Love Winnipeg Tribute Dinner took place at the RBC Convention Centre in downtown Winnipeg, where more than 800 guests from various political, military and philanthropic communities came together to support Canada's troops. The evening was hosted by long-time TPL supporter, General (Ret'd) Rick Hillier, and featured a special musical performance by Juno Award Winner, and Winnipeg-native, Chantal Kreviazuk.

“Winnipeg has a proud military history and we’re incredibly grateful that Manitoba’s corporate community came out in support of our military veterans and their families,”said Jason Stefanson, Tribute Dinner Committee Co-chair and Vice-Chairman, CIBC World Markets Inc. “We understand that at over $1 million raised, this is the largest philanthropic dinner in Winnipeg’s history; the proceeds are sorely needed to support our wounded heroes.

True Patriot Love has proudly supported many critical programs in Manitoba since our inception in 2009, disbursing over $400,000 to military family programs, veterans transition services and mental health treatments, among others.

True Patriot Love would like to send a sincere thank you to all those who attended the event. In particular, thank you to all sponsors who have allowed proceeds and funds raised from the evening to go to support a variety of military organizations throughout Manitoba. Thank you to Presenting Sponsor, Exchange Income Corporation, VIP Reception Sponsor, Parrish & Heimbecker Limited, Platinum Sponsor, Great West Life, Gold Sponsors, Aikens Law, The Asper Foundation, CIBC, Manitoba Hydro, MTS and WestJet, and National Silver Sponsor, RBC.

Camp Maple Leaf

On June 25th, True Patriot Love - along with hundreds of Camp Maple Leaf friends, supporters, former directors, counsellors and campers - was honoured to attend the grand re-opening of Camp Maple Leaf on Pigeon Lake, Ennismore.

Camp Maple Leaf, a 104-acre island on Pigeon Lake in the Kawarthas, was founded in 1955 by the Canadian Council of War Veterans (now known as the United Council of Veterans), as a living legacy to their commitment of caring for communities. For years, Camp Maple Leaf has been a place to relax and have fun for children from military families and those who may not otherwise be able to afford a camp experience.

With a transfer of ownership in the past year, Camp Maple Leaf is now proudly operated by the Camp Tanamakoon Foundation. Camp Maple Leaf’s renewed and refreshed objective to continue and broaden its reach to children with unique challenges, including children of military families, remains strong. True Patriot Love has been a proud supporter of Camp Maple Leaf over the past few years, providing over $366,000 of funding since 2011 to send over 500 children from military families to camp, and is happy to have been a part of the special Grand Re-opening – welcome back, campers!

Congratulations, Camp Maple Leaf, on a wonderful re-launch. Have a fantastic summer season!
