A Global Effort for Military and Veteran Families

Earlier this month, True Patriot Love CEO, Bronwen Evans attended the ASCN Tri-Nations Symposium in Adelaide, Australia as a keynote speaker. The Symposium brings together over 100 senior delegates, representing 80 organizations from Australasia, North America and Europe. The Symposium fosters important dialogue to bridge the gaps in the health, well-being, and needs of the defence and emergency first responder community.
In her remarks, Ms. Evans noted, “At the charitable level, we have the ability to be nimble and flexible in funding those “diamonds in the rough” that, more often than not, end up being transformational in how we care for those who serve”. The 2016 Symposium was instrumental on building on the work of previous meetings and strengthen the global network of organizations committed to military and Veteran families. Canadian representatives from Veterans Affairs Canada and the Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health research were also in attendance. Invictus Games Toronto 2017: One Year Countdown

On October 1, the Invictus Games Toronto 2017 celebrated its One Year Countdown during Nuit Blanche at Yonge-Dundas Square and experienced the inspirational power of this simple prose: “I AM the master of my fate.  I AM the captain of my soul”.

Guests were given the opportunity to participate in the construction of an I AM structure in the centre of the square. The 30-foot by 30-foot structure was built with over 6,000 black and yellow blocks and was the first of its kind for an Invictus Games.

Yonge-Dundas Square was buzzing with activity. The festivities included a photo booth where visitors could get their picture taken with friends or with VIMY the mascot. Visitors could also admire vehicles on display from presenting sponsor Jaguar Land Rover and the Canadian Armed Forces.

There was also a live mural experience by renowned sports artist David Arrigo; depicting two Invictus Games’ competitors’ journeys entitled ‘From Darkness to Light’.

“If this night was any indication, the competitors, their friends and family from 17 nations around the world are in for the best Invictus Games yet; starting with a warm and enthusiastic Canadian welcome.” Said Michael Burns, CEO, Invictus Games Toronto 2017.

True Patriot Love is proud to have secured the bid and required seed funding to bring the Invictus Games to Canada in 2017.  Over the coming months, we will be working together with the Invictus team to raise the required funds to host more 500 competitors and their families

Prince's Operation Entrepreneur

With TPL’s support, Prince’s Operation Entrepreneur ran four successful boot camps this summer and there are now 79 new entrepreneurs-to-be ready to launch or grow their businesses. Participants came with a wide variety of enterprising ideas, from building a family fire starter business, to a health and safety consultancy, frozen prepared foods, service dog training and developing an app to help navigate the health system. For the first time this November, patriotic Canadians will be able to find and buy from these alumni and other veteran businesses with the launch of POE’sVeteran Business Directory.

This fall, POE is also offering one-day “Introduction to Entrepreneurship” workshops for transitioning members, veterans and military families considering entrepreneurship on CF bases across Canada. For personnel with physical or mental health challenges, entrepreneurship can provide the employment flexibility they need to come back to the workforce. In 2016, TPL assisted the 74% of boot camp participants who were medically released find a new civilian mission: their own success.
