HOW WILL YOU COMMEMORATE VIMY 100?

(Vimy, France 2015)

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge – an important event in our country’s military history. In 1917, Canadian troops were victorious in this famed battle which was a critical triumph in the eventual success of WWI. This milestone provides the perfect opportunity for all Canadians to come together and pay tribute to our military men and women – those who have served in the past, and those who continue to serve today.

TPL’s mission is to inspire every Canadian to contribute to the resilience and well-being of our military, Veterans and their families. One of the ways we encourage this is by providing opportunities for Canadians to learn more about our nation’s military history to deepen the awareness and appreciation for our service men and women who sacrifice so much.

On April 9, 2017, TPL will journey to Vimy, France to attend the official ceremony commemorating the 100thAnniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, along with 25,000 international attendees. Follow us on Facebook or on Twitter for behind-the-scenes coverage of this important milestone.

Interested in seeing this historic site first hand? Join TPL on our Annual Educational Trip on June 24-29, 2017. Participants will be guided through our nation’s defining moments by Dr. Terry Copp, renowned military historian at Wilfrid Laurier University, and special guest General (ret’d) Rick Hillier, former Chief of Defence Staff for the Canadian Armed Forces.

Spaces are very limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis. For more information on this incredible experience click here.

ARE YOU READY? WE'RE TRAVELING ACROSS THE COUNTRY FOR CANADA 150

(Antarctica Expedition,  2016)

Building on the success of TPL’s previous expeditions, BEST OF CANADA will bring together ill and injured soldiers and business leaders to create lasting mentorships that will provide soldier participants with the support they need when transitioning to civilian life. The BEST OF CANADA expedition series will push participants to their limits as they take on physical tasks that will prove to be equally challenging and rewarding.

Since 2012, TPL has produced ambitious expeditions around the world which have directly impacted the lives of 30 Canadian Armed Forces members and engaged 50 influential Canadian business leaders, to raise $2 million in funding for Veterans’ issues and to shed a light on the stigma of mental illness, the challenges of Veterans’ transition and provide meaningful mentorship opportunities.

Some of the programs and services we have supported through our expeditions include, Military Families Fund, which provides counselling to military families, University of Southern California, to Canadianize a virtual reality treatment for PTSD, and Prospect Forces@WORK, which helps Veterans as they pursue civilian employment.

Thanks to the committed expedition participants and our generous sponsors, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of more military families. Without your continued support these expeditions would not be possible. Special thanks to Scotiabank and Mackenzie Investments for their support in the upcoming 2017 BEST OF CANADA Expedition Series.

A DAY OF GOLF IN SUPPORT OF VETERANS' TRANSITION

(Les Shaw Invitational for Heroes, 2016)

Calling all golf enthusiasts! The 7th Annual Les Shaw Invitational for Heroes is on Monday June 19th, 2017, at one of Ontario’s most beautiful private golf courses, Magna Golf Club. The event will raise funds for our brave service men, women and their families.

Since 2011, the Annual Les Shaw Invitational for Heroes has raised over $700,000 for TPL. Funds raised support programs like Veterans Transition Network, which provides Canadian Armed Forces members with the resources and tools they need for a successful transition into civilian life.

Thank you to the Leslois Shaw Foundation for its continued support.

TURNING EMPATHY INTO EMPOWERMENT

(Invictus Games, London 2014)

In 2015, TPL made a successful bid, and secured the required $10 million in seed funding from the Government of Canada to bring the Invictus Games to Toronto this fall. Established by Prince Harry, the Invictus Games honours the unconquerable spirit of wounded warriors and uses the power of rehabilitative sport to help them on their journey of recovery.

From September 23-30, the 2017 Toronto Invictus Games will host 550 athletes from 17 allied nations to compete in 12 adaptive sports. Canadians will rally behind our athletes, transforming empathy into empowerment.

On September 22nd, TPL will host the 2017 Toronto Invictus Games Multi-National Symposium where global leaders and military families from all 17 countries participating in the games will focus on the impact of injury on the military family. The interactive discussion will provide guests with the opportunity to share their knowledge and own experiences related to the important role families play in recovery after injury due to service.

A NIGHT TO PAY TRIBUTE TO OUR MILITARY FAMILIES

(TPL Toronto Tribute Dinner, 2016)

On November 9th, 2017, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Toronto’s corporate and community leaders will come together for the largest fundraising event in support of Canada’s military men and women and the families who stand behind them. In celebration of Canada 150, this year’s TPL Toronto Tribute Dinner will showcase and recognize the strength and dedication of the women of the Canadian Armed Forces and their families.

In 2009, we held the first Toronto Tribute Dinner, bringing together 2,000 Canadians in an evening to raise $2 million in support of military families. Our first tribute dinner, and the continued success of our following dinners, prove that Canadians are proud of our military men and women, and are seeking ways, beyond wearing the poppy on Remembrance Day, to express their support.

Funds raised from the Annual TPL Toronto Tribute Dinner have gone toward initiatives that support military families, such as the Invictus Games and programs that send military children to camp. Thank you to the continued support of our amazing dinner sponsors and a special thanks to our Presenting Sponsor, Bell, who has supported the TPL Toronto Tribute Dinner since 2010. On November 9th, 2017, the PEI Friends of True Patriot Love will host its second PEI Tribute Dinner at the Delta Prince Edward Hotel.

In 2015, a group of community leaders in Prince Edward Island hosted the first PEI Tribute Dinner in support of TPL, raising funds to support programs benefiting serving members, Veterans and their families living on the Island, or with family roots in PEI. Examples of the community investment, as a direct result of the support of local Islanders, include the first ever delivery of a Veterans Transition Network program in PEI.
