A MONTH OF REMEMBRANCE

(TPL 9th Annual Tribute Dinner, 2017)

November is a very important month for our military families and all Canadians. Remembrance Day provides the perfect opportunity for all of us to come together to honour the sacrifices our brave service men and women, and their families, have made – yesterday, today and in the future. This month reminds us that service does often come at a cost and that it is up to all of us to support those who have volunteered to keep this great country strong and free. With deepest gratitude, I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our military families for their service.

The generosity of Canadians continues to inspire me. On November 9, we saw 1,000 members of the community come together for our 9th annual Tribute Dinner held in Toronto. This event raised over $1.4 million, which will help us support even more military families in 2018 and beyond. This month’s newsletter gives you a behind-the-scenes look at the evening and shares some ways you can support TPL in the coming months.

On behalf of True Patriot Love, thank you most sincerely for your continued support.

THE 9th ANNUAL TPL TORONTO TRIBUTE DINNER

This year’s tribute dinner honoured the strength and dedication of the women of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). Many influential service members and community leaders were in attendance to pay tribute to our military families, including Brigadier-General Virginia Tattersall, who spoke about her own experiences as a servicewomen, and The Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, who reflected on the inspiring contributions of women in the CAF over the past 100 years. Lieutenant-General Charles A. Lamarre, Chief of Military Personnel Command, introduced the CAF's new recruitment strategy, which is striving to increase the amount of women who serve to 25% by the year 2026.

Since 2009, True Patriot Love has raised $16 million through our Toronto tribute dinners to support Canadian military families.

TRIBUTE DINNER: MEMORABLE MOMENTS

Every year, the True Patriot Love Patriot Award is presented to an individual who demonstrates outstanding philanthropic commitment within the military community. This year, TPL Chair Shaun Francis, presented former Lieutenant Governor of Ontario The Hon. Hilary M. Weston, with this award for her unwavering support and devotion to women’s issues, at-risk youth, and volunteerism.

During the dinner, True Patriot Love CEO Bronwen Evans, announced the launch of the Captain Nichola Goddard Fund, which will provide essential programs for servicewomen, female Veterans and their families. Captain Goddard was killed in 2006 during an ambush west of Kandahar city. She was the first female Canadian soldier to die in a combat role. TPL is working with the Goddard family to carry on Nichola’s legacy by helping military families across the country.

At the dinner we announced that since inception, True Patriot Love has supported more than 25,000 military families. To hear some of their inspiring stories, click here.
